Apparently, the Israelis interdicted the supply chain for a Taiwanese shipment of pagers going eventually to Hezbollah in Lebanon. Today, about 2,800 pagers were all set off by signal in the afternoon. Many injuries and some deaths. Collateral damage was present, and some civilians were hurt. At first it was speculated that malware had overheated the lithium batteries, but the general theory seems to now be leaning toward the covert insertion of ~20gr of high-explosive (PETN or C4). The detonation apparatus is yet unknown. While the op was very clever, I'm wondering if it will boomerang on Israel. No doubt it's immediately hamstrung Hezbollah, but it's not knocked them out of the game, either. I'm also concerned that it was done to goad Iran into a war with Israel, who would then drag us into it. I wouldn't put such deviousness past the Mossad. Biden forced out, two attempts on Trump's life, the disappointing debate with Harris...and now this pager attack. 2024 is going to finish wildly. |
