Has anyone ever repaired a powerfin prop? I have 2 props that need some repair, one hit a rock and dang near put a hole in the blade about 2" from the tip. another has a delamination on the leading edge about 3" long. Trash? or repairable? I was going to send them back to Powerfin to get repaired but they seem to be out of business. Just wanted a good prop for a spare. I watched the sensenich repair video, but not sure these blades are made the same. |

With the modern glues. should be repairable, especially that close to the tip ... plus, once repaired, you can put helicopter leading edge tape on to help keep the repair to be protected. I have seen people repair props leading edges get knocked about by the wind hitting the leading edge where repaired and cause whistling and risking cracking ... putting leading edge tape on makes them heaps better Evidently a good glue is to use superglue and cement dust ... or superglue and ground up/powdered pencil lead ... strong like steel! |

Erosion on the leading edge and delamination pix # 1 Clean area with alcohol let dry, Inject cryo glue into void area add powder and drop glue into surface to build up then sand smooth and topcoat with paint... Impact damage on blade face Clean out loose fibers (fingers only) alcohol wash let dry, spread powder in damaged area and drop cryo into area. Thin layers at a time build up flush to blade face Impact damage on Blade back area with crazed surface (This is the result from blade face impact) Sand area and clean look for cracking add cryo into cracks let dry between coats Blades look like solid fiber build up no cores, Inspect before and after repair and make entry on propeller records . Weight limits apply, balance A good preflight inspection for all blades, They don't look too bad. |

Ok thanks Hillbunny, I watched the Hartzell repair video where he put a carbon fiber patch on with epoxy and then clamped. But not sure of construction differences. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYwKbH2U4EI&t=823s |

Looks like a solid blade Hartzel same style but larger then yours and his repair had Hysol epoxy (great stuff) A silicon pad (engine baffle material on a wood board) to clamp over the repair area to force the resin deep into the repair. If you use cryo in layers or resin with a cover the idea is to get the glue wetted deep into the fibers. |

I will give it a try, I got a nick in my prop at Bensen days, (repaired with super glue and soda, and a file) and thought Hmmm... I wonder If I should have a spare prop just in case. |
