A LOT of better information ...when THIS "eye-witness" Gopro video was released!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GA2h0hm3BI

CLEARLY SHOWS THE GYRO CROSSED TOO CLOSE IN FRONT OF HELICOPTER ...NOT RAMMING INTO THEM FROM THE LEFT!

The helicopter rotor cut the gyro mast & rotor flies off up into top left of screen ...the second heli rotor chopped the tail as the gyro began to tumble ! ...the heli stopped dead with loss of rotor dropped then inverted prior to the fatal impact & fire (RIP Mark & Tom). A Tragedy!
The miracle ... somehow the gyro with the engine prop-push /momentum ...angled down to bounce on mains & hit the parked Mooneywith the crush factor making the impact survivable! ...another miracle ...no fuel-cell rupture - or fire! VERY VERY lucky ...many gyros of the modern 2 place tandem design have caught fire on impact!

I'm SO thankful for the blessing of Eric's & his passenger's delivery ...& ESPECIALLY ...when you see all that debris raining down ...how no one on the ground was hit is a miracle also!

It was amazing to see the gyro rotor coming back down - like boomerang ..re-appears from top right of screen ...falling to lower left ...well after all the other debris had fallen!

The last time I saw a rotor coming down by itself was at Anahuac in 2014 when we lost Steve Weir - our beloved club president! AWFUL sight!

No need for the 360 maneuver in a pattern.
The way the Rotorway door and window are designed the helicopter guys never saw the gyro
and during the turn the helicopter would be under the nose and belly of the gyro unseen also.
Tragic. and preventable

Vance is still crying that the helicopter hit the gyro
I guess he doesn't think the rotor disk isn't part of the helicopter.
The only reason Eric wasn't killed was the blades on the Rotorway turn clock wise like an A star. and swatted that Euro tub forward and not behind during impact. If that Rotor disk was a anti clockwise Eric would of tangled with the tail boom.

I got a nice text photo from the Van DeVeeters (Mary & George) a week ago - nice pic of Eric - looking great - & Callie with George ...in front of trailer with the remains of the ELA - I guess the NTSB released it & they went up to reclaim it. I heard it took Eric 6 weeks of healing before he could sleep in bed & not the recliner chair!
It sounds like the FAA also told them the accident was not THEIR fault!!!

FAA will review paper work per the regulations
NTSB will find cause

They'll probably state the non standard maneuver contributing and see and avoid was hampered by the enclosures on both air craft.
