I need a dead red lion for the screen. This goes to my wireless rotor tack. It would be easier to change the screen than doing all the mods necessary to make the new tach wireless. Any Y'all got one? I'll pay for it. Yep starting to fly again. Gaining weight, sleeping better and enjoying life once again. 19 months of fighting Small Cell Carcinoma doing 55 radiations to different body parts, 12 chemo's and 12 immunotherapy infusions with two more to go. My last Ct came back clean which is rare for this type of cancer. Cured for now, but it can come back any time. Got the Helicopter off the ground and to be honest I don't like it. Gonna stick with gyros. Maybe build a jumper with the rotor head from the helicopter. Ok. dig me up a dead Red Lion tach Here's some pics why I wanna change the screen Thanks in advance. |

Sorry, I can't help you with the tach. Curious about your experience with the heli though. Care to elaborate? I have often wondered if flying a "gyro that doesn't auto auto" would be unnerving? |

Trying to self teach flying a helo is a different monster. I'm going to have to get some CFI time. It's not as leisurely to fly as a gyro. Power to lift is not as linear as a gyro. Lot of collective for lift but small drop in collective you fall like a rock. Every power setting has a rudder input. Just too damn busy for me. Playing in hover uses a lot of power . It just feels dangerous , but I am not a trained helicopter pilot I still have my gyro till I find a CFI which I don't have close to me anymore. Self teaching to hover is no problem going transitional is when all the different variations in control come in. |

(I have had the same) you mentionned a wireless tach but the red lion is using a cable if you tell me more the I could try to help you I am happy that you have taken over flying cheers jmi |

And yes, it is wireless. I designed and fabricate them. The pickup transmitter is not only counting teeth, the ring gear is also the power source so the Tx needs no battery https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rogM2sg ... MrGyrojake |

Jake I don't know much about Electrical stuff other than how to disrupt them, I watched your video. The part where you talk about the magic cause the sending unit has no power? I am lost. how can it generate a signal and send it to the reciever with no power? Is there a tiny battery inside it? |

That is one part of Jake's secret. (it generates its own power) |

I am lost. how can it generate a signal and send it to the reciever with no power? Is there a tiny battery inside it? No batteries included !! The ring gear and the pickup make an alternator. An alternator produces voltage and current. That's what makes a hard wired tach work. Every time a tooth passes the pickup a voltage is produced. I just use the voltage to power my transmitter and use ASK modulation which is produced by the teeth on the ring gear. The 108 pulses from the ring gear are transmitted to the receiver which demodulates ASK and leave 108 pulses per revaluation which the Red Lion is programed to read as 1. So yes, magic, beer and weed make all things possible I also have a full engine monitor that is wireless. I will make a video as tutelage. |

So, does it work if the ring gear is coated in grease? Or does that affect the magnetic sensing of the ring gear? |

Henry Bowman wrote: So, does it work if the ring gear is coated in grease? Or does that affect the magnetic sensing of the ring gear? Nope, grease has no effect. Actually no coating as thick as the gap will have an effect. The only way to interfere is to make the gap too large. |

WOW, now that's some old school stuff right there. Thanks for the offer but they won't work with my tach. My screen is a contact type, that one is hard wire. Thank you for taking the time to try and help, much appreciated |

JAKE! wrote: I need a dead red lion for the screen. I have one I'll give you. The battery died and I haven't gotten around to ordering a new one. I'll get one ordered and as soon as I swap it out I'll send you the old one. Probably be a couple weeks(ish). Eric |
