Ever Dial a Wrong Number ?
I have a story for my next post .... but here is what got me on the topic

(From December 2015)
British astronaut Tim Peake apologized on Christmas Eve after dialing a wrong number from aboard the International Space Station.
Peake, who boarded the space station less than two weeks ago, wrote on Twitter late Thursday night saying that he had been trying to call his family.
“Hello, is this planet Earth?” he asked the woman who answered the phone.

The area code where I live is 204 and I had been making a series of long distance calls trying to source some factory car part numbers .... got it all figured out so I dialed the customer to rattle off a long series of part numbers and date codes (he was expecting my call)

Trouble is I miss-dialed the 204 into 202 ... which is the area code for Washington DC ... and the the number I dialed put me deep into the bowls of a restricted unlisted Pentagon department . Ahem !!!

Here is how it went:

Pentagon picks up the phone and says "Go ahead"
Arn ... yeah it's me ... got a pen ?.. I have all those numbers .
Pent: Go ahead
Arn: First of all you have to look at your serial number and count to the 6th number from the end and that is your year of manufacture . Its like deciphering a code.
Pent: OK
Arn: If the 6th number from the end is a 5 you need part number 837159M603B . But if your 6th number from the end is 4 you need part number 837159M603A because there was a change-up in mid-production and that is where all the confusion comes from
Pent: umm OK
Arn: Want me to repeat those numbers just to be sure you got them correct ?
Pent: No , we record everything , you should know that
Arn: ummm no I didn't , great idea though , you can just replay the tape. Cool !!!
Pent: silence
Arn: Oh and one more thing , you will have to pay for everything in advance before I put the order in , no refunds on old stock special orders , that is why you have to get the 6th digit of your serial number exactly right.
Pent: What is the case number and are you sure you have the correct department ?
Arn Case number ? Bill is that you ? Its Arnie here .
Pent: How did you get this number ? ... What number did you dial ?
Arn 1-204-XXX-XXXX
Pent Sigh. Shit . That's the right number but the wrong area code. You have reached The Pentagon.

Haaa ... we had a bit of a laugh ... I was thinking of calling him back to tell him to save the recording and play it at his next christmas party , but I chickened out , figured some men in black might come knocking on my door.

There was a radio reporter who was the only person who could get through with a personal call to the Beatles when they were on tour. Many years later he revealed his "secret"

It was easy to figure out what hotel they were staying at , but not which which rooms .... so the reporter would simply dial the hotel switchboard and ask for extension 201 and say ... put Ringo on .... was usually the wrong room so he would dial again ask for ext 202 ... put Ringo on .... he went down the the list like that and said eventually got the right room and often ended up talking to the whole band. Said they were usually bored anyway , couldn't go anywhere because they would get mobbed by fans.

Arnie- That was a cool story! I love getting into the bowels of a.company. Your story reminded me of my Ford truck story that had me purposely going up the chain of command at Ford. I will post a new thread. Thanks again Arnie, you are always an interesting dude!.

Best ones are when a hot sweety calls you and thinks you are her lover , the trick is to not say much ... just a few uhuh's and they will talk and talk.

A simple thank you would have been enough for the morning coffee without all that "how did you get in here" nonsense.

I like dialing wrong numbers.... it is like my hobby....

Have had quite a few long conversations :laughing :pop

When my cell phone company had free calls between people on the same network, it was called 'phone surfing' :laughing :wol2 :Wolvie

There is one of "those" numbers in this area that connects to the Savannah River Nuclear Site.
Word is "Don't ever dial one of them. Ever."

Might bring some heat up here

We need the heat .... friggin Arctic is cold this time of the year.

We even pray that global warming is real ..... and it drives the bleeding heart global warming liberals nuts .

... not as nuts as Nucking Futs but fun to watch them try.
