That stump is looking pretty much like an eagle Well done Stan.... please tell me you aren't going to throw away all of your tools and make stairs with a chainsaw from now on? Looks awesome! |

It actually is just roughed out. I carved on it this morning. I have the feet to do, then lots of cleaning up...cutting in feathers... Then painting it...and pouring epoxy over it. I had cars honking, waving...people stopping by taking pictures.....geeshh...its not even done yet. Thanks Muz for posting my pictures. I will send the finished ones after it's all done. |

What about just brushing it with used motor oil once it is finished? I am just thinking the motor oil will soak in, it is cheap and should make a nice color... and it is cheap Epoxy might not seal as well as a good soaking with oil... oil would give it a real 'rustic' look However you end up doing it... I am sure it will look fantastic I must say, I am worried someone may like it TOO much and pilfer it? If you oil it constantly... people may not want to steal it to put in their lounge room.... Is this your current flag? |

Now that's ART! Right there!!! Very talented indeed my brother. Looking already great. Can't wait to see the finished bird although it's looking great as is. Wood carving takes a special person with skill and taking his time. I ain't that guy |

Gabor...I am the first to say I am not an artist. I cant freehand carve. What I did was take a side and front profile of an eagle, scaled it to my tree trunk...then attached matching pairs of the profiles to the trunk. The chainsaw simply notched the trunk till it touched the profile. I then removed the notches. Instead of draw by number, I sawed by notch. An artist can just freehand it. What I lack in artistry, I made up with template crutches. |

Thanks Muz for posting my pictures. Thanks for the comments. I have had several requests to carve more critters. A local restaurant wants me to carve a large chicken for their place. |

Great work Stan! Yes do the chicken, here in Atlanta there is a local landmark called "the big chicken" referenced when giving directions and by traffic helicopter reports etc... |

Beautiful work as always! I can see how curved stairs would have taken away a lot of space and natural light if they went with that. I think the choice was great having to follow the square shape. Eagle looks spectacular. I bet you get a bunch of honks going as cars pass by. |
