Gyros around the world, two Brits - Norman Surplus and James
Author Message
Hopefully many here are following the awesome trips of two round the world trips with gyrocopters, flying together. The first is James Ketchal in a new Magni M16 who just started his trip in the UK, and the other is Norman Surplus, in GYROX the Autogyro MTO (the one with the terrible dangerous rotor blades , wink, wink) who is actually completing his trip started in 2015, after they have finally obtained clearance to fly across Russia. You can follow them on their websites and tracking sites.
James tracker is at...

Norman's tracker is at...
https://eur-share.inreach.garmin.com/GYROX
James website is at...

James Facebook page is at...

Check out Norman's FB page at

and don't forget to subscribe to James's YouTube channel for regular videos from the flights at...

They will also be at Oshkosh hopefully this July.
Also of note is that they have really opened up the trans-Russia route for future general aviators through their connections.

There is a workaround for that .... it has been done before.

One of the worst scoundrels in town died and his equally scoundrel brother asked the local preacher to do the funeral.

Not only that the brother said he would make a large donation to the church if the preacher would call his brother "A Saint" during the eulogy.

O.K. said the preacher ..... at the funeral the preacher spoke about the wayward lifestyle of the deceased and then said ...... but compared to his brother he was a saint.

He's definitely getting worn out. Hope he gets some real rest before he tries to make the crossing to Greenland and the Faroe Islands.

Yes I can see the fatigue building! He does seem to be aware & taken some extra rest days ...and at present the weather is limiting his distances flown!
I can imagine the pressure to get going on the Atlantic section ... before the weather up there turns wintery!
Norman 's tales of that section make one realize how important it is to be fresh & have all chances to make good ADM decisions ... it really will be the biggest challenge ...coming at the end of the journey!

I'm interested to know exactly where he will cross to Greenland, what his total fuel is with the Turtle Pac, maximum range etc.

Things are starting to get interesting -check out the tracker. I wonder where Norm is relative to him. May look close but probably a couple of thousand miles. :rofl
