Long story, maybe I will share it later... anyhow lost one of the ignitions on my Flightstar with the HKS 700e engine,
Also lost the sale..

It uses a DC (12volt) CDI ignition, not a magneto. So all was working great, then on a mag check one ignition is totally dead..

Any troubleshooting thoughts before spending money on parts? I know I have to isolate the ignitions to find out which one failed, then figure out if it is a coil, or cdi box, I checked the switches.

That is a bummer Scotty...

Check the switch or switches..... is it a key switch with both and L + R .... or two toggles and a push button start? Make sure the coils have good earths too. :noidea Try running it on the position it runs and bridge from the battery to the side that isn't working... see if it comes to life or not... Check no rats have chewed a wire as well... :killme

I hate it when something that has been going good... poops itself when you are showing it to a prospective buyer .... DoH!! :yoda2 :Wolvie

Yeah I checked all grounds, even replaced the grounds on the coils just to be sure,

It has toggle switches just like the diagram, yeah it sucks having to give the money back and send the buyer packing.

I just want to make sure I find exactly what component is bad, replacement CDI boxes are $410 each, same with coils, $410 each!

I don't want to spend $1000 plus just to sell it.

At the risk of sounding too obvious, swap one component at a time and test. If ignition 1 is good and ignition 2 is dead swap the coils. If now ignition 1 is dead and 2 is good, you found your culprit. If the problem remains the same try the CDI box, then the switches, I'd even swap the fuses, had them look and test good but fail under a load. Do one component at a time and you will eventually find the issue.

Maybe first try switching the switches... for one side to be out completely... I think it seems like a switch/power/earth problem ...

Lets hope anyway. :like

Don't you have another cdi unit you could try before spending bux? What about any friends near by who might have a spare you could try? :noidea :yoda2 :Wolvie

Yeah that is what I was going to do, try to isolate it down to the component, Muz the problem is that I don't know anyone with spare HKS parts... I have plenty of rotax spares.....

I am going to take the prop off and try it to see if it fails when not under a load.....(well its all a load, ...of crap)

I'll find it.
