We have all witnessed the declining interest in hands on trades. I am sitting in Indianapolis at what used to be a mega woodworking show. I never will forget being at my first one back in the 80's ..and you could hardly get in. Now that I am 65, I am one of the young ones here. The handful of younger people were mostly huddled around the CNC machines and the laser cutting machines. These tools were micro cutting out the Mayan calendar on a silver dollar size disc....you needed a magnifying glass to see the insanely small intricate work that they were doing. The ones buying these machines are what I call " store bought craftsmen." It's really a shame how rare we that work with our hands are. If I were starting over, I still want to be stuck in the past because we are getting farther away from it each day. As long as I can move around in my shop...I am going to make "chips happen" |

Roger that Stan, I think we are the last generation of true craftsmen that know the value of working with your hands. We are facing a crisis in this country in the next 10 years we will have shortages of plumbers, welders, mechanics, pilots, you name it. |

. Lots of curves and contoured wood to make a wine barrel .... I have always been amazed how those barrels never leak even though they do not use any sealants between the boards .... you woodworking guys are amazing . |
