Built in Russia during the 1930s, it flew 11 times
before crashing and killing 15 people.

The designer, Konstantin Kalinin, wanted to build two
more planes but the project was scrapped.

Later, Stalin had Kalinin executed.

Evidently, it was not good to fail on an expensive
project under Stalin.
The size would be equivalent to the Empire State
Building on its side, with cannons.

Can you imagine what it would be like sitting in this
thing when those cannons go off?
Looks like something out of a Jules Verne novel.

Story checks out.
Specifications (K-7)
A detailed scale model of a K-7

Data from Shavrov (1985)
General characteristics
-Crew: minimum 11
-Capacity: 120 passengers in civilian configuration
-Length: 28 m (91 ft 10 in)
-Wingspan: 53 m (173 ft 11 in)
-Height: 12.4m (estimated to top of engine shell)
-Wing area: 454 m² (4,886.8 ft²)
-Empty weight: 24,400 kg (53,793 lb)
-Loaded weight: 38,000 kg (83,776 lb)
-Powerplant: 7 × Mikulin AM-34F V-12 piston engines, 560 kW (750 hp) each
Performance
-Maximum speed: 225 km/h (121 knots, 140 mph)
-Service ceiling: 4,000 m (13,123 ft)
-Wing loading: 84 kg/m² (17 lb/ft²)
-Power/mass: 103 W/kg (0.06 hp/lb)

The K-7 first flew on 11 August 1933. The very brief first flight showed instability and serious vibration caused by the airframe resonating with the engine frequency. The solution to this was thought to be to shorten and strengthen the tail booms, little being known then about the natural frequencies of structures and their response to vibration. The aircraft completed seven test flights before a crash due to structural failure of one of the tail booms on 21 November 1933.[4] The existence of the aircraft had only recently been announced by Pravda which declared it was " victory of the utmost political importance" since it had been built with steel produced in the USSR rather than imported.[5] The accident killed 14 people aboard and one on the ground.[6] Flight speculated that sabotage was suspected as the investigating committee had representation by the state security organization, the Joint State Political Directorate (OGPU).

However, there appeared recently some speculations in the Russian aviation press about the role of politics and competing design office of Andrei Tupolev, suggesting possible sabotage. Although two more prototypes were ordered in 1933, the project was cancelled in 1935 before they could be completed.

Kalinin was executed as an enemy of the state in 1938 during the Stalinist purges.[2] According to Soviet records, he died in 1940.

The Russians designed and built some truly amazing aviation stuff... some of it just not practical... yet some of it WAAAY ahead of its time.

What comes to mind is that HUGE single-rotor heavy-lift chopper... one of a kind... that is still flying around the world doing really HEAVY lifts. Never can remember the name of it... saw a documentary on it on TV a year or so back.

WORLDS LARGEST HELICOPTER Russian Mil V 12 Mi 12 bigger than us army Boeing CH-47 Chinook

Published on Aug 11, 2013

The Mil V-12 (also referred to as the Mi-12, NATO reporting name Homer) is the largest helicopter ever built. The name "Mi-12" would have been the name for the production helicopter. Since the V-12 never went into production and only two prototypes were built, the name "Mi-12" was never officially adopted.[1]
Development was the result of a need for a heavy lift helicopter capable of carrying major missile components and dropping them into silos without the benefit of road infrastructure.[2][clarification needed] Production began on the V-12 prototype in 1965 with the goal of lifting no less than 30,000 kg (~33 short tons).

The first prototype made its first lift-off on 27 June 1967. After a few oscillations in close proximity to the ground the V-12 made a rough touchdown on one wheel, resulting in a burst tire and a bent wheel disk. Even though the damage was insignificant, it was reported in the Western press that the prototype had suffered severe damage, and even to this day the rumor persists that the prototype had crashed fatally.[1]

The Boeing CH-47 Chinook is an American twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter. Its primary roles are troop movement, artillery emplacement and battlefield resupply. It has a wide loading ramp at the rear of the fuselage and three external-cargo hooks. With a top speed of 170 knots (196 mph, 315 km/h) the helicopter is faster than contemporary utility and attack helicopters of the 1960s. The CH-47 is among the heaviest lifting Western helicopters. Its name is from the Native American Chinook people.

The Chinook was designed and initially produced by Boeing Vertol in the early 1960s; it is now produced by Boeing Rotorcraft Systems. It is one of the few aircraft of that era -- along with the fixed-wing Lockheed C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft -- that remain in production and front-line service, with over 1,179 built to date. The helicopter has been sold to 16 nations with the U.S. Army and the Royal Air Force (see Boeing Chinook (UK variants)) its largest users.
The United States Army (USA) is the main branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for land-based military operations. It is the largest and oldest established branch of the U.S. military, and is one of seven U.S. uniformed services. The modern army has its roots in the Continental Army which was formed on 14 June 1775,[3] to meet the demands of the American Revolutionary War before the establishment of the United States. The Congress of the Confederation officially created the United States Army on 3 June 1784[4][5] after the end of the Revolutionary War to replace the disbanded Continental Army. The army considers itself to be descended from the Continental Army and thus dates its inception from the origins of that force.[3]
The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (Russian: Вооружённые Си́лы Росси́йской Федера́ции, tr. Vooruzhonnije Síly Rossíyskoj Federátsii) are the military services of Russia, established after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. On 7 May 1992, Boris Yeltsin signed a presidential decree establishing the Russian Ministry of Defence and placing all Soviet Armed Forces troops on the territory of the RSFSR under Russian control.[3] The commander-in-chief of the armed forces is the president of Russia. Although the Russian armed forces were formed in 1992, the Russian military dates its roots back to the times of the Kievan Rus'.

The number of troops is specified by decree of the President of Russia. On 1 January 2008, a number of 2,019,629 units, including military of 1,134,800 units, was set.[4] In 2010 the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) estimated that the Russian Armed Forces numbered about 1,040,000 active troops and in the region of 2,035,000 reserves, (largely ex-conscripts)[1] but a significant military reform is underway which will cut the number of active troops.
Russia Listeni/ˈrʌʃə/ or /ˈrʊʃə/ (Russian: Россия, tr. Rossiya, IPA: [rɐˈsʲijə] ( listen)), also officially known as the Russian Federation[10] (Russian: Российская Федерация, tr. Rossiyskaya Federatsiya, IPA: [rɐˈsʲijskəjə fʲɪdʲɪˈrat͡sɨjə] ( listen)), is a country in northern Eurasia.[11] It is a federal semi-presidential republic, comprising 83 federal subjects. From northwest to southeast, Russia shares land borders with Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland (both with Kaliningrad Oblast), Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, and North Korea. It shares maritime borders with Japan by the Sea of Okhotsk, and the US state of Alaska across the Bering Strait. At 17,075,400 square kilometres (6,592,800 sq mi), Russia is the largest country in the world, covering more than one-eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area. Russia is also the world's ninth most populous nation with 143 million people as of 2012.[12]

IMO libbies are about power... They see themselves as elites... and as such truly believe they should rule.
IMO they really do not care about conservative or liberal... they care about ruling and the lifestyle (including power over everyone) that comes with ruling. It is a form of arrogance... IMO similar to a spoiled child.

A trip through military boot camp (or a trip out behind the woodshed) should clean up that attitude... shame it is not 'socially acceptable' anymore.
OTOH: It appears to me this recession over the last few years... has caused a 'growth of thinking' in the minds of many of the libbies I have for customers... they are thinking more about how to survive govt than what to get from govt.

It is not the die-hard libbies that we need to be concerned about... it is the 20-30% swing voter... who is fickle and for sale.
Keep their heads thinking with common sense... and the libbies will always be in the minority.
