I had to take my mother in law to Charleston, SC last week. My MIL asked isn't that plane going too slow. I told her that it was probably an optical illusion because it is so big. Then today I saw a video of one doing a short field take off and to me it looked like he was not going to make it before running out of runway. They do look like they are going too slow. I got to looking and noticed they can do 500mph.
I have got a question. On takeoff what speed does that plane have to be going before the pilot starts pulling back on the stick? I couldn't find the takeoff speed listed in the specifications.

As fast as he can!!!! During desert Storm, the C-5's would come into Pope AFB and load up the Army equip at Ft Bragg, then take off with full loads of M-1's and bradleys etc. plus all the 82nd airborne stuf, they were using about 8500 ft of A 9500 FT RUNWAY.!!!
Not sure what the take off speed is.
