We aren't allowed to buy a machete in Aus..... a 'cane knife' is like a half sized machete... we are allowed those....
but we cant be trusted with a genuine machete evidently
But you can go to the supermarket and buy meat cleavers or carving knifes of all sizes, or a hardware or car place and buy tire irons, crow bars, pry bars, screw drivers, wood saws of all sizes and types.... you can go to camping shops and buy tent pegs, hunting and fishing knifes, spear guns and so on.... but you cant buy a machete... too dangerous
