Yeah, got an Email from a fellow HVAC guy in Houston... with the same video. Looks like an MTO... Desmon will be along soon with the details. Looks like nobody got hurt... which is IMO the important thing. |

This morning I took a nice flight in the gyro. As I was inbound to Hooks I did not hear to much traffic except a helicopter hovering 600 ft east of the runways. I was cleared to land right base on the small runway 17L. This was about 7 miles out. I heard another inbound plane ask for the big runway 17R he was informed it was closed. This sometimes happens while they repair things or clear wildlife. On 1 mile final i saw vehicles on the runway and supposed at first they were repairing lighting. The helicopter asked the tower if they could take a picture of me coming into land. The tower asked me to smile. I thought it was a joke. Then I passed over and off to the side of the down gyro. I saw several police cars no flashing lights on and the gyro layed over close to the high speed exit. The local FSDO called me later and said they think it was a taxi after landing accident. Both pilots were unharmed Gyro needs a full rebuild. This is my post from the other forum I copied. I feel this was a ground rotor handling issue. Something they just do not have the training in. The guy who was flying had winds down the runway 17R with a slight cross 16 gusting 20 they were from about 190. But they were spinning down and did not come to a full stop. Went to taxi off the highspeed and it layed over. Now that was from what I was told from the FSDO. I will talk to Kieth my friend over there and see what he might have to say. |

. So Desmond (and anyone) .... it sounds like blade flap during taxi that cut off the tail ... does that sound right ? thanks Arnie m. |

Well watching the live feed video it seemed that it didn't roll over but the rudder was flapping and the MTO for some reason designed the blades touching the tail even without flapping so they didn't even necessary have to flap the blades. An accidental backstick while running off the runway will cut the tail! |

Now that sounds like the kind of design I'd want in my gyro . WOLVERINES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I have flown with Desmon in an MTO sport... I have to say... it flies really NICE!!!!... and it flies as much like a FW as any gyro I have been in (not many). I do remember Desmon explaining clearly that the rotor CAN hit the tail and/or the prop; depending on conditions. To me, this is like most other aircraft... each has its specific quirks... and one needs to know and be careful of those quirks... sounds like the coppers did not receive adequate training. Oh well... |

This was not a tail strike I discussed it with the pilot. Basically he landed and still had lift in the blade and a 20kt gust lifted it back into the air slightly and it laid over. At that point hell breaks loose. |

Not Monday morning quarterbacking here, but one must still fly his gyro while on the ground. Always have to be aware of the wind direction and have the rotor tipped towards the wind accordingly. After landing, tilt the rotor into the wind to unload it. |
