Question from anybody met at spouses work party..."So are you a SEAL?" Answer..."No I wanted to be one but my ASVAB Score was too high" Know this, all jokes aside....EOD Guys standards to get in are tougher. Its a fact, look it up. Spoiler alert....If you haven't seen the movie this will not go well, HOWEVER everything I knew I watched on the TV commercial and after seeing the movie I wasn't anymore enlightened. In the commercial for the movie you can get the gist that the SEALS are discovered on a covert op by some goat herders..and have to make a tough moral decision on whether to kill the herders or unass the area and scrub the op now that they have been compromised. The Commercial AND the movie makes it clear they have three choices, kill them and continue, tie them up and escape or let them go and escape. Suffice to say the commercial gave enough info for even any ARMY Officer to clearly see there was a simple 4th option not considered that would have been a win/win all around. I was so incensed by the sheer stupidity of the logic tree used that I couldn't finish watching the movie immersed in the character development without continuously asking "how could 4 reasonably smart guys not see this 4th choice? At the time they made their fateful decision they not only controlled the situation, but weren't under fire or stress and were reasonably well rested. So WTF? It bothered me SO badly I did a bunch of research on the internet today and sure enough the story in the movie is "Hollywooded" up and as might be surmised the truth is although troublesome much more believable. The question came up at work, "Does it count as an ambush, if you were too dumb to realize you were surrounded?" or is that just poor situational awareness? I haven't read the book. But I read the AAR that Marcus Luttrell gave (on the blaze interview) and all I can say is, if you want to watch a movie about military mistakes costing soldiers their lives, watch Galipoli, The Charge of the Light Brigade or even the Longest Day. IMHO The only guys who could be looked at as heroic were the guys that got waxed in the Chinook. I wasn't there, I don't have all the facts and freely admit that, but if you watch the movie (and according to Box Office sales, you probably will) and the go back and re-read this post and you tell me? The writers missed a HUGE and OBVIOUS 4th option. Very sorry it cost so many lives......an ultimately for what?...........What have we gained? Like Joe Walsh says in Life of Illusion..."Continual Crisis" |

I guess I'm just pissed it cost $50 to take the family to the movies now. |

Costs $3, and they have digital projectors. Popcorn and a drink is $5... total $8/person to see a flick... just have to wait a month or so after it comes out. |
