A plane nosedived while trying to take off at the Pea Patch Aerodrome in Blythe, but no one was injured.

About 1 p.m., a private plane notified Air Traffic Control officials of an incident at 4511 Boulineau Road, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Richmond County deputies and the fire department responded and found a K35 Bonanza aircraft nose down in the runway. The pilot, the only person aboard, was unharmed and stated that he taxied to the end of the runway and accelerated the plane to takeoff. The plane traveled approximately 100 feet when the front gear collapsed, according to the pilot.

The front of the plane struck the ground, and the plane continued forward for about 30 feet.

The plane received minimal damage.
