What a freaking joke was the shooting part!?!?!?!?
The targets were about 10 feet away in the dark and used targets so you couldn't even tell if the client hit it or not!?
I mean really????
Good news is that my new one won't expire for 7 years.......
Ex cop telling me to choose revolver over a semi as a concealed weapon just made me questioning a few things.
Anyways. The best 65 bux I have spent for a Sunday morning class that didn't involved picking up trash :rofl

His reasoning was reliability.
My reasoning is good luck to conceal a revolver on a 115 lbs little girl like my kid!
I also have a certain fondness for having more than 5-6 cartridges at my disposal in case I have missed 30% of my shots due to being too excited :rofl

Well Gabs, cant speak for the rest of his training, but his recommended revolver is a good call. They are only "slightly" harder to carry concealed depending on method, the reliability factor is magnitudes more then the finest auto, and if the auto has been sitting in your pocket for months on end like mine, im sure ill get one shot, but with all the lint and dirt and dust that might be all I get. Thats why I usually carry two guns and at least 3 knives.
Most guys, my friends included have a fantasy about being the Hollywood hero in a crime where you against the bad guys and you come out on top with your trusty pistol....
Thats not realistic if you look at the statistics for ccw carriers involved in crime situations. Low light, less than 6 feet and in the less than 15% encounters where shots are fired, 2.3 rounds are used. In light of this, a revolver makes way more sense. Also for a given price and weight, the revolver is usually more powerful and better made.
Not trying to convince you to get one, but dont dismiss them.
Also as one of my instructors taught me when I was still on active duty, your carry gun is only to get you to the next bigger weapon.....Either yours or the enemy's.
I am currently looking at going back to a Smith 49 humpback because my edc pocket colt gets so filthy in the field Im not sure I can trust it.
Glad you got your class, maybe someday ill get back that way and we can get a class togther for the AZ class.

I like my .357 .....Taurus 5 round, 2 1/4" barrel Stainless.
But I mostly carry my SCCY. 9mm.
Unless at church, then it is the .380.. :laughing

I am not dismissing it but out of the 40 people in the class room 37 were tiny women and I am just not seeing them concealing a bulky revolver.
He also said if you have a single stack auto you are better off buying a dog.....
Soooooo revolvers are double stacked?
That guy was trying to impress old chicks more than anything.
Some of the statements didn't make sense.
I do understand the complexity of a semi with the freaking feeding ramp problems and spring here spring there makes them less reliable.
I got that. No question about that part. At the same time for an average user with a small body frame a properly holstered semi is nothing to sneeze at.
But this is just like picking a gyro for yourself.
What's the preference of use I guess.

They could get creative, with one of those Flash Bang bra holsters.....

The biggest thing I see with a revolver is that you just point and pull the trigger, no safety to fumble with, did I chamber a round? Women don't get into the mechanicals like men do,

You push this thing in here, then pull this thing back, no pull it back hard, ok now flip this switch up, now point, ok now squeeze the trigger......
that is too much for a woman to remember unless she is interested.....a revolver is easy....bullets come out this end, squeeze trigger go boom.

That is another reason to like a double action semi auto ..no safety to mess with.

Ask Benry.... I think the S&W would be a good carry gun, not a good range gun....
Again like Gab said it is all about what fits you and what you are comfortable with.

My Ruger P-89 is a wonderful gun, I wish I could take it with me everywhere, just a little hard to carry concealed.

So, just out of interest... has anyone here, or anyone you know of who carry, ever actually had to shoot anyone in self defence? :noidea

I have heard so much from forums of what people want to carry, what they carry, why what they carry is good/great/the best.... But I have never actually read where someone says "some asswad tried to rob me last night and I blew his head off" :shoot or "someone broke in to my house and I splattered him" ......

Do people normally just carry to carry, or is there a real threat and gu.ns get used often, but people just don't talk about it? :noidea :pop

I am just interested, that's all. So many people want a huge gu.n to carry, just wondering if anyone has actually been attacked and pulled a 45 on the dude and blown an arm off or head? :laughing

That must be messy and cant be too nice :noidea :laughing :pop

There was a whole thread on one of the gu.n forums where people were talking about what they do with their 'piece' when in a public toilet.... everyone has their own 'rituals' and where they put it, or if they hang onto it, whilst taking a dump? Different holsters etc.... concealed or open carry.... Until I rad those, I didn't realise what an issue it was.... like taking a dump and a hand comes from under the divider from the next cubical and your gu.n is gone :eek :drama One guy was saying he used to go into the toilet and just sits there with his bug and waits to see if a hand comes under the divider.... he had 3 hand shots to his collection (that was a few years ago) :laughing :wol2 :Wolvie

I like this one.

I do not know anyone who has ever had to shoot someone...I know that it happens,
But many times when the weapon was produced the incident was over and never escalated into a shooting.

Recommending a revolver for women is an ease of use issue. In our class, we actually were given revolvers
and semi autos to handle and dry fire. With few exceptions, most of the women could not rack the slide on the auto's. You can tell if a revolver is loaded just by looking at it, and as someone already pointed out, no safety, just point and shoot. Unless they carried "cocked and locked" they might as well just throw it. A Hammerless 38 special is not that hard to conceal.
One last thought. If you are involved in a self defense shooting, your gun will be kept as evidence for a very long time. You may never get back your 50cal with the unobtainum superslde, laser guided, gel gripped $1200 thunder stick....it's evidence. ;-)

Im on a phone, so ill type brief.
The revolver is less complicated.for most women I teach to use.
Almost ALL women use off body carry, either they leave it in the car or use a purse,so for women concealment is usually secondary. A concealment purse is a wonderful carry method for most women, they are never without them.
The guy teaching sounds like a numbskull, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.
The Scandium frame Smith is absolutely one of the most punishing guns to fire with full house loads, but very light and manageable with lower power 38 specials and plus P loads. (another HUGE benefit to a revolver is different power loads as the guns functioning isnt tied to recoil)
One thing to beware of on the Scandiums is the bullet weight. If its too heavy the bullets in the cylinder will pull forward out of their cases and lock up the cylinder. Follow ammo suggestions.
And unfortunately I do know that a couple of my students have needed their guns to save their lives, mostly it worked out, sometimes not.
Statistically you are much more.likely to need.to protect yourself from a vicious dog then a criminal.
I have never had to shoot anyone but was damn glad my show of force got me and my wife and baby out of a very bad situation once.
If you carry and practice and become one with the gun, you no longer appear as prey to the criminals who are sizing you up...its a confidence thing.
Once a little old woman was pulled over and the cops asked her do you have any weapons?
She said yes, a revolver here, two semi autos there and a rifle in the trunk. Cops says "what are.you afraid of ma'am " she replied "not a goddam thing, sonny"

Das is correct, hand strength not needed and most carry revolvers are either shrouded hammer or "hammerless" types.
One thing to impress on carriers of small hammerless types is never let the gun get close to the bad guy, if the grab the cylinder you cant fire it....and as for ammo, hks makes great speed loaders for peace of mind.

I don't claim to be an expert in anything therefore any idiocy I will write comes from personal experience.
In my dark background training we were given .22 caliber to take out people that were not needed anymore.
Till today you will NOT see an assassin use anything else but a .22 hollow.
It's quiet, doesn't exit the body and takes you down quick.
Your internals will bleed out in no time!
Therefore I will always I mean always always break towards smaller caliber hollow holding the max possible amount of ammo....
But that's just my preference.
I don't see carrying a .45 around being an advantage unless of course you have a small penis and have to compensate. :rofl
DOn't get me wrong I was religiously wearing my .45 in the Smokey Mountains....a black bear is a black bear!!!
Now that is a great use for a .45 :laughing

Get a .380 auto and keep it in your sock with your sandals....

You could always get a 9mm revolver so you wouldn't have to buy new ammo..

Gabs, carry what you want.
Be aware the standard for dud rate ratio on rimfire priming compound is 10 times higher than centerfire boxer primed.
And my cock may be average or smaller, but it has alwyas performed well and produces nothing but sons, so.....Maybe carrying an effeminate gun and caliber is a symptom and not a casue;)
