I hate having to charge radio batteries. So I figured I would try this little transformer, potentiometer, regulator, whatever it is..... It has a little pot on the back to adjust to the output voltage you want. So after I hook it up to the isolation transformer I already have on the dominator, I will adjust it to 7.2 volts. It is lighter and cheaper than a radio battery. It was $12.41 including shipping. I will use one of the icom AA battery adapters and wire it to that. Hopefully I will have clean, noise free power, if not I guess I get to charge radio batteries. |

I did have my Icom24 on a battery adapter taking the 12V directly from the battery. Never head any interference. Then the battery blew up and took the radio out So I just went ahead bought another radio Icom6 and kept the battery on the charger. I am interested to hear how this works out for you Scott. Thanks for posting it. |

I personally would like to see you keep the batteries as a 'damper' so to speak and also if the charging system fails, you can still use the radio for a while. I would have the radio on charge from the gyro constantly so the batteries aren't responsible for all power to the radio I just think that it would be easier on the radio if the battery can absorb any spikes in voltage, or make up for any negative spikes.... I have one of those voltage reducers.... mine has a switch so you can set it on 7.5v, 9v or 12v |

Well in the old days we had a series of capacitors cleaning out the interference if any.... |

It is a great way to backup the handheld in case like mine when the battery blew up... |
