Apparently the owner-pilot is a rich Brazilian businessman who hangs out with politicians and everybody expects his stunts will kill him some day.

That was obviously not on purpose. Water is a funny surface. You don't get the ground effect so it's very easy to mess up like that. As a matter of fact at that range you have more water molecules in the air due to vortexes and when you have less air you have less lift. Simple as that. He was lucky. Luck does however eventually runs out :argue :der

The thing is, that sort of potential damage to the tail rotor can be done then and not show up until weeks or months later :realcrazy

I would be getting that chopper looked at real closely in case it fails at a later date.... naturally at the most inconvenient time :killme :drama not that there is a convenient time for a tail rotor failure :laughing :yoda2 :Wolvie

That just cost him mega bucks 'sudden stopage' tail rotor blades, hub, gearbox, t/r drive shafts, main drive shaft node weight in mast, If he didn't report it or get it fixed the owner is on the hook if it has a future problem.

:bunny He just screwed the pooch.
