I think "cubic yards" would be a more appropriate way to measure the volume on that one. |

These super sized diesel engines are built for the ship industry on a colossal scale. Didn't know they shipped them by road though, since most of them are assembled in the shipyard as the ship is being built. Awesome pic! |

Do they start those engines with a jockey engine? I know they don't use a Diehard. |

Prolly 50,000 Hp at 200 rpm I saw a show on foxtel about ship building, the one they showed had a straight engine about the size of a 2 storey house, the pistons were about 5' across and the 'mechanic' climbed into the cylinder to check the valve guides or something.... it looked more like getting into an elevator.... I also saw recently, cant think where, could have been here.... that an ocean liner/big ship moves about 6" per gallon of diesel.... almost as bad as some cars these days |
