Our hanger neighbor in # 85 ...Don has had a big hand in this restoration project !
a couple of times he showed me around & inside the project in the last couple of years ... a very big job ... incredible detail!
It was exciting to see it flying around KEWK during its airworthy trials this spring!
Don will be speaking to our local EAA Chap88 group about this project in the coming months!
WOW!

The "Dixie" wing of the commemorative air force is located close to here, right next to Aircraft Spruce,
http://www.commemorativeairforce.org/
They always need volunteers, I wish I had more time, also the Army heritage foundation is not too far away, http://www.armyav.org/the-hangar.html they are the ones with the Cobra's that I rode in, again they always need help, if I was retired I would be busier than I am now....
This place is just down the road too. http://barnstormersworkshop.com/

I found a huge old radial engine mount out in my woods, I took it to them and they said it looks like it was from a DC-3, I want to use it for a table base.

A few years ago Delta Airlines donated time, space and equipment to repaint one of the p-51's from
CAF.. here is a picture of the P-51 in the run up hole just after paint.

We had a fleet of F111 skyhawkes and the military did a deal to get new planes, FA18's, but they had to 'remove from service'.... permanently out F111's :eek

So out of the 34 planes, 13 were donated to various (gubbamint sponsored) museums.... :like and 22 were BURIED somewhere :eek :what :badluck :cry

They took out any secret stuff, avionics, weapons.... cut a trench in a land fill, piled them in side by side and on top of each other..... and pushed fucking dirt on them with a D9 :realcrazy :killme :cry

perfectly serviceable planes :eek 28 of them :cry

SAD!! Brings a tear to the eye just thinking about it :badluck :Wolvie

What a shame, the F-111 and F/B-111 were bad ass.
