I used to watch them on fox.... they came up with some nice toys.... the worst thing about their show was it was always the same recipe.... same as all of those shows.... a crazy deadline, too many over dramatized simple problems :realcrazy , too many idiot staff members :calmdown (with the latest tattoos and attitudes) but they always make the deadline ok, of course.... same recipe as American chopper :drama , critter gitters, redneck rocketeers, all the car rebuild shows.... pimp my ride, the truck one, pimp my what? american hotrod. :drama ... overhaulin'..... Have to laugh at overhaulin, nearly every second episode someone dobs them in that it took longer than 7 days :laughing One guy said at the end it had been the hardest 2 weeks in his life.... which is strange since it was a 7 day build?? :noidea :laughing :Wolvie

I always liked tracked vehicles , and have some of my own designs since the 1970's , but never built my first prototype because I realized the issues to overcome :
--- I wanted something to walk over deep snow without sinking (a light tracked vehicle can do that)
--- I wanted something fast (most tracked vehicles are slow)
--- To steer a (slow) tracked vehicle is easy , de-clutch one side and a bit of brake on that track
--- To do a 360* turn apply full brake to one track , works great
--- but you cannot do that (braking) at high speed.
--- High speed tracked vehicles turn by a (heavy) (complicated) bending of the track itself (military)

But some of those things can be sorted out , which is obvious by the video , and pretends to turn quite well at high speed , but notice it is actually a slide on level ice , not a turn per say

But the fatal flaw in a tracked vehicle is that they are the ficking roughest vehicle ever invented by mankind

Sure the flat track on flat ground pays no attention to minor bumps ... the track (and machine) appear to be immune to little bumps , and they are.

But the next time you see a tracked vehicle go up an embankment watch close , the machine abruptly goes nose up and stays nose up until it crests the embankment , and once overcenter it smashes straight down and whips necks and smashes faces all over the cockpit. There is no gradual cresting a hill or uneven ground like a wheeled vehicle .

That is the part they dont show you

But I still love that machine , and because I never had one I used to drive my 4X4 trucks like that on our frozen lakes .... 50-60 mph mostly sideways , girls screaming , while I smoked cigarettes and drank beer with a steady foot on the accelerator , that is important , once you get a high speed slide going you have to caress it a bit

All those girls are still alive , and so am I , and being a good boy I delivered them all home safe and sound at the end of the day

Boy could I tell you some stories :) :) :) .
