Decided to mount the Go Pro looking backwards on my flight the other day. Unusual perspective. Definitely unforgiving when evaluating those landings.

.

Well that is an interesting perspective :) .... I was surprised how much the rudder cables jump around

One of the reasons I mounted the camera that way was to look at those vibrations. There is also a lot of vibration in the camera from the wind, which does not help. What I don't know is whether this degree of vibration is normal. I need to borrow one of those cable tension things to see if my cables are tightened to spec. The tail shudder is mostly evident on full power climbout and is actually much betterwith the new prop. I'd be interested to see the same view on other MTO's and other gyros for comparison

Yes definitely would be helpful to see other MTO's vibration and compare before we freak out :eek

It's still a pretty cool view though.

It is a cool view...The cables will flop around quite a bit, I used small nylon adel clamps as cable giudes to keep them from flopping against the keel.

Good idea. Do any of you guys use a tensiometer to adjust cables, if not how do you assess
the correct tension? The guy I bought my prop from is going to lend me one, I looked online and they are almost $1000

One thing you don't want Lofty, is the rudder cables in tension all the time, it can pull on the swedges and cause the strands of wire to crack where the wire bends, or at the swedges.... as long as the wires are trapped on the pulley.... let them wobble around, no drama. This allows for the flex of the frame without tightening the cable beyond yield.

At full throttle, nothing will stop a tail shaking... I would too if I was that close to the prop :eek :laughing as long as when you back off a tad it stops.... and nice smooth cruise, all is good :like A small alloy trim tab might arrest small amounts of shake?

However, remember the old saying.... 'if it aint broke.... don't fix it!' :noidea :laughing :wol2 :Wolvie

Clearly my cables were way to loose! Here's the video leaving Wauchula a few days ago , much improved.
