So I would like to start a thread, sort of a build thread, as I research gyro flying around the world. I am mesmerized as I watch videos of folks flying gyros in Africa, Australia,, Europe, Asia, the US and Canada etc. Strangely even though there is a bunch of stuff about Central America - Costa Rica and Mexico, I can't find much about flying in the rest of South America. Hopefully over the next few years I will accumulate the flying skills and knowledge to embark on some worldwide gyro travels, whether it is just local flying in certain faraway places, or something as ambitious as going around the world. So I am looking for suggestions as to how to research and plan, try to build a resource of flying info about different countries, contacts and connections etc. Maybe start a blog or website to flesh out the plan, share experiences etc. I though I would start here with folks I think I can trust, even if it is to take the mickey out of my crazy dreams and ideas.I thought of starting a head on the other forum, just don't like too many people there. I'm starting with the standard US cross country flying, I have a 3 day trip planned in South Africa in August with the emphasis on some mountain flying and formation flying instruction. Anyway hope to share experiences and try to get others' experiences worldwide to build a body of information. By my estimates, if I am lucky, I have 10 good years of flying left, so it's time to start. This video I posted on the other thread just really gt me starte.
This is exactly what I want to do. I got the travel bug so bad lately I drove to Key West and back just for the drive not long ago.
I have lots of commentary and articles and have established some contact with ppl who have already done exactly what u propose.
I will be happy to share all I have. Be nice if a couple of us or more could go on a world tour together if u know what I mean. Nothing like sharing good times with friends u can be yourself with.
Gabor..here's a good chance to plan a family vacation and still get the gyro flying in!!!!

Sounds like a fun adventure Loftus .... all the pilots I know who have done it say the hard part was dealing with screwy governments and corrupt bureaucrats in some of those places .... not to mention cash tossed out of aircraft windows before (some) crooked airport employees let you take off (escape)
Flying around the world as a continuous one time process as probably too ambitious - particularly in a gyro. Some guy from the UK got started on it, but I think he's still stuck somewhere (at least his gyro is) in the far East. But doing some extended legs over a few years would be cool. West coast of Africa, West Coast of South America, across Australia, Europe.... that would be a good start.

Made some pretty interesting contact and connections this weekend. I think just doing the research will be fun and interesting, whether the plans materialize or not. I picked up a link from the website Gabor gave for the guy trying to go around the world in a gyro. The link was to White Rose Aviation - they arrange overflight rights, permits etc for people flying around the world from experimental to 747's. I emailed them, and the owner Mike, literally called me from the UK and we had a great chat. Turns out he has also helped a German guy flying around South America and the Caribbean in a trike by the name of Andreas Zmuda. Well he put Andreas in touch with me, and of course the connection is Abid (Fara) who trained him in a trike and helped in his preparations. So small world. http://vimeopro.com/tuberainmedia/trike-globetrotter
