I think we are like 76 US cents talk to FJ, now is the time to buy one.... latest CF rotors and all You would only need a 912S .... a 912S is 100Hp all day, a 914 is only 85Hp most of the time except for 115 for 30 seconds or something (limited) after that, the turbo does nothing but add weight for nothing..... The way our dollar is at the moment, you would be able to sell annoying orange for about what you pay for a Titanium, and you get to choose the color too (Orange maybe?) Tangerine scream? |

Yeah if I were buying my first today I'd seriously look at the titanium, but pretty happy with the obnoxious orange, a good well made machine that flies great, essentially a tested and certified machine. What I really want is a machine on floats. Living in Florida with all this water I think it would be sweet. I'm also going to be working part time in the Bahamas starting in May or June. Gyro may not be the way to go - maybe FW. Maybe I should talk to them about a Titanium on floats. |

A gyro on floats in the Bahamas would be a dream..... Gyros lend themselves to floats very well, from what I have been told .... the low and slow landing capabilities evidently suit and are easy to get the hang of.... hopefully some floaty-gyro folks will chime in |

Yeah, they are pretty draggy though. Definitely need more power. There's a guy here in Pensacola, Northern Florida (Hydrogyronut from the 'hover' controversy on RWF) who has apparently done a really nice job with mods on his to improve on the standard MTO offering. He has made a number of float mods, and increased his 914 to 135 HP. I definitely want to spend some time looking at his. Now I know a Hungarian who has promised to build me an amphib..... |

Yes, especially well-hung-aryans I reckon rather than a 914, I would rather have a 912S/ULS (or whatever they are) 100hp and put a little bottle of nitrous on it, than carry the weight of the turbo that does nothing until full power (and only for 2 minutes or so... same as nitros) or get a 912 and fit a draw thru carby (SU) turbo, that makes max about 7# boost, but boosts from mid throttle.... but I guess they are too fragile for that? 914's which are less than 90Hp unless WOT prove to me, that a 912S (100Hp all the time) is the better engine, it is the one I would have for sure. People say "Yeah, but the turbo compensates for altitude?" well, normally, but not how I have been told the 914's turbo is set up? With a real turbo boosting even at half throttle 3-4# yes it would compensate for altitude |
