I have always been fascinated by Gods creation, and the closer I look under my feet such as the miracle of a plumb bob...or that ant being busy...or when I look into the heavens....I am in simple humbling AWE!.
One of my many interests has the interesting coincidental occurrences that are ear marked to the comet Shiemaker Levy 9 comet and its impacting Jupiter in 1994. I was right there watching the news develop as the scientists at mission control revealed this first time ever visible impact of a celestial body by another celestial body.

You can go google these tidbits yourself ..but NASA announced that the comet broke into 21 individual chunks that started impacting Jupiter for a period of 7 days starting July 16th thru July 22, 1994. The 21st anniversary of that event is coming this July.

I love to dig out information...and my helicopter void has cleared space and time to think about such stuff.

Eugene Shoemaker was the co-discoverer of this comet. He was to be one of the Apollo astronauts sent to the moon. But unfortunately for Eugene , health issues prevented that. So instead, he was stuck on earth as a NASA consultant. He was a geologist and wanted so bad to pound rocks on the moons surface. Eugene got to talk to the other Apollo astronauts as they told him of the experience they had being one of over just over a dozen humans ever privileged to do so. Eugene got his wish granted, but in a totally unexpected way. He died in Australia in a head on car crash ....after his comet struck Jupiter causing the first live impact of another celestial body impacting another one visible from earth

Another scientist realizing Eugenes desire to be on the moon...set the wheels in motion. He was able to take Eugene Shoemakers cremated ashes...have them placed in a vial...loaded aboard the Lunar Prospector mission...which after nearly a year of orbiting the moon....fired it's de orbit rockets and the Lunar Prospector impacted the moon with Eugenes ashes. Eugene Shoemaker is the first human to have any his remains left on another celestial body.

There is a lot more interesting details to the Shoemaker Levy 9 comet impacting Jupiter that I will time to time come back here and add.
