We were out watering Barbaras plants and I jumped when I saw this pigeon sitting in the pot. Beautiful bird....but then I noticed it had bands on its legs. I assumed it was a government research....or Ovomit spying on me. I was able to gradually get closer and closer and could finally get my finger on the band on his right leg that had numbers and letters on it. I was able to record the numbers....and then did some research on this bird. The band said AU MCI 413 2014. I soon learned that AU means its a racing pigeon! The MCI was where it was released...the 413 is the bird itself. I found a website and entered the numbers and lo and behold...up came the owners name, location in the next state over...Indiana....and his phone number and e-mail address. Couldn't stop now...so I called the number and a guy answered right away. I told him I had his bird...and he was excited.
He says she is tired and just resting. I sent him a picture of her...and he knows his birds. He is offering to pay for me to ship her back....or.......if she wants to stay here and lost her instincts to return home....I have a racing pigeon. See the green band on her left leg? That is a computer chip that activates the clock for timing the birds when they leave and come home. The yellow band on her right leg had the ID numbers.
I told him I am feeding and watering her now....that I love Gods critters...especially ones that fly. If she wants to recoup and fly home fine...if she wants to stay...fine also.
Cant wait to show the grandkids.

I love birds. Cool stories. My only cool story.....One day at SC, I was walking out of the hangar and turned left to see a huge bald eagle...almost, hovering? Flapping it's wings backwards to stay in its position. The moment I saw it, it released a fish from its talons maybe twenty feet from me, and off it went. It was very weird/cool.
Other than that, I had a parakeet when I was a wee lad.

Stan & JAKE .... those are the coolest bird stories .... love 'em !!!!!! You must have some built in magnetism connecting you with nature.
I am convinced birds are very intelligent ... years ago I pulled into a small rural gas station and watched a Robin hop up under the grill of cars to get the grasshoppers and bugs from the radiator.
There were people and gas jockeys around so it quickly put them in a small pile on the concrete gas pump island.
After the cars left , it came and got the bugs one at a time and took them to the nest .

I told this story to friends and family , and regretted it afterward because it was so unbelievable people thought I was making it up.
I lived on a rural acreage with a river going thru it and A Great Blue Heron caught and swallowed 3 mullets (we call them suckers) in the space of about 20 minutes.
Each fish was about 12" long and 3" wide ... the Heron would catch them sideways , hold them for a minute , then do a quick flip and get them going head first down the throat.
That bird was so heavy he could hardly take off .... apparently a Heron will swallow the fish whole , go back to the nest and regurgitate it to feed the young ones
I never had a camera to record it but found a youtube video of a Heron swallowing a huge carp ,
Like I said , you have to see it to believe it
