My Brother and his wife just returned from the UK after living there for a year,. One of the thing He brought back is a pair of kitchen knives that are incredibly awesome! Very nicely balanced, comfortable to hold and sharp as a scalpel! Hand made one at a time by a local artisan. http://www.blok-knives.co.uk/

Yep it was pretty pricey, 240 british lbs.! thats like $400 US, but it just feels good in your hand, you know, Quality.
I always try to buy the wife Quality stuff for the kitchen, that's her "shop" plus it gets used every day, I did not buy her any hand made knives yet, but now that she saw one.....
Quality is hard to define, but you definetly know when it is not there.. (Wal-Mart)
