just down load kali Linux and be done with it, so far the only issue I have had with kali has been installing the Adobe flash player, since it is a non free program, no big issue, 2 command lines in terminal in root and it works fine. even got Cindi running it on hers and you know how women are about their stuff.
working on getting wine set up so I can see if I can get Windows Flight sim to run in linux.
Of all the versions I have tried so far, this one is doing everything I want it to.

Do you have a All In One printer/scanner and does it work?
I'm wondering if the AIO printer program/drivers can be used with that WINE program you mentioned.

See that is a problem, everyone has their favorite and it is the best thing since.......I was told that xubuntu xfce wa simple and would run on an older machine.. problem is it will not auto detect the wifi or modem.. I don,t have time to learn this stuff right now... too busy with other stuff that actually maters, back on windows 7 for now. It only took 4 1/2 hours to download the first time, then had to re download because the stupid windows had to shut down 1/2 way through...

I even posted screen shots..... I have deleted Ubuntu because I didn't like it and said it so! I use Zorin because it's for idiots. And I am one!!! If I can use it you are good to go.

Have you tried hard wiring a cat 6 ethernet cable to the modem?

Gabor, I tried Zorin before, and it worked great until it did an update and reconfigured the whole desk top system. I like having multipule desk tops running at the same time, when my Zorin updated, it made it like the new version of Ubuntu, it dumbed it down to like a simple windows desktop with the task bar on the side. so hated that. On kali I have 8 desk tops, I use 1 for e-mail, another for the web browser, another for my chat program, another for my address book, and another for file work, like moving photos from my camera to the hard drive. then if I am uploading you tube videos I will open another desk top. launch another browser and do the you tube from that desk top, that way I don't accidently kill my you tube upload. yep I am ruined to multi desk tops. also I can click a link in my e-mail and it will open a new tab in the browser.
not sure how Zorin is doing now, but the latest version of Ubuntu that Zorin is based off of, if you clicked an E-mail link, it would open a tab in the Browser, but if you where on another desk top you had to change desk tops by going to the side task bar, clicking the box to select the deck top you wanted ( which was limited to 4 ) then find the browser.
to me that was to much of a pain.
So far Kali is doing everything right, now watch next update could fuck it up also who knows..lol
we have Kali on my big desk top running 4 hard drives and on Cindi's lap top, so far both are working fine. I have not tried to install a printer yet, I might do that today.

Tim that is why I suggested Zorin. Scott is all that but a programming mathematician....or maybe he is...I don't know. Zorin works out of box and no need to update since 9.1 just got out. Hooks up with every bit of connected crap. I could not believe that even my old mofo HP500N got hooked up..... I thought I had to throw it out. But no! Zorin saved it I am just trying to save him the headache of configuring shit while being new at it.
