.

fj .... Gary has it right .... the P&W R-2800 Double Wasp would be "so you" .... !!!!

I am not qualified to give you any advice ... I like the 6 cyl 540 but a Lyc 435 is the bullet proof one ... in helicopters anyway ... hard to find , expensive ... and maybe not the HP you need ... have you ever read Vance's Mariah Gale build thread ... look at what he went thru just making the engine mounts for the Lyc 360 he is installing ... not as easy as it would seem.

Good luck with your search

The only problem with turbines in a gyro is they burn twice the fuel or more. That a great deal of weight to carry. I believe you would be best serve using an IO540, leaving more weight for the ag sprayer. You then could leave fuel out and carry more chemicals adjusting the time you fly to match the amount of weight in chemicals for the most coverage with the least amount of flying time.

I've flown Cherokee's six's over gross but with a neutral weight and balance with WAY OVER a Ton in them.

Now gyros only have a 4 to 1 glide ratio at best, IIRC, and Cherokee six's 10 to 1. Still the math indicates TRIGGYB should carry about 1000 lbs with an IO540 if you just use the glide ratio's and the gross weight I've flown as a ROUGH guestiment or SWAG!

PRA 31 is using an IO320 only 150HP with a much lighter Genesis G2sa and Nicolas guestiments it should carry two 300lbs souls and fuel. That's with only 1/2 the HP of an IO540!

And with that IO540... you probably will get a variable pitch prop... which will improve your climb performance.

I believe they are illegal to adjust in flightl on an experimental gyroplane?

If so you could install it and set it on the ground to the pitch you want for that flight... of course this would be using the on the honor system!

I owned a certified Beechcraft Mustier with a 180 or 200 HP (don't quite remember) engine with the 337 Paper work to make it legal.

It too used the honor system but not to use full-power instead of pitch and I hate to admit in public I was less than honorable on at least two flights at full gross on very hot days at high density altitudes which made the take-off safer.

In flight variable pitch is not illegal on an Exp gyroplane.
Just can't have it if you fly with sport pilot license.

THX! When I read John's post above... I thought I would research this. THX for the answer.

Since I do have the PP-SEL... and do have the 'high performance' rating... this will work for me.

Jim, you will just have to get a PP license... then you can fight to keep your class 3 medical, like the rest of us... :cry

I think I read that a Volkswagen Beetle becomes a lifting body and becomes air born somewhere around 160 mph.
