It is a terrible no-no to smoke in
now.... there is no advertising allowed, no sport sponsorship. There are ads on TV to quit, in the shops, cigarettes are not to be seen (in cupboards or behind curtains) it is illegal to smoke in any public place/park/building.... it is illegal to smoke in a car with children in it, no smoking on busses, trains, cabs, planes.... no smoking withing 25'of building doorways yadda yadda... they advertise alcohol and betting on tv, newspaper, sponsorship... but, oh "please gamble/drink responsibly"
\I am a non smoker, but I believe that either they also ban other advertising for things that cause death/bad health...like alcohol, gambling, junk food, sugar drinks.... either ban them all or let smokers be.... every time there is a stink (pun intended) about cigarettes, that is better advertising to get children to want to take it up, than money could buy...
What people don't realise, is the gubbamint has to be seen to do something because they know how deadly smoking is.... however, they need the revenue from tobacco.... they have budgeted for that money.... now they don't get tax from sports advertising dollar... cigarettes go up $, less people are smoking, so less revenue.... cigarettes go up$ to make up for the shortfall
That is why the subject comes up on the news/media.... to try to entice anyone back to smoking when revenue drops too much.... who mentions tobacco in the media? The gubby of course
Either ban advertising on all, or let smokers be! They advertise alcohol.... booze kills NOW, the driver and the innocent family he kills.... a smoker kills himself over a period of time.... which is worse? Which deserves to be banned more urgently?
