Suddenly, for some unknown reason, I feel the need to tell this little tale:
For those who do not know, I live in Taylorsville, Georgia. The general reply when I mention that is, "Where's that?" And actually, that isn't exactly pinpoint accurate. Despite the fact it says that on my Drivers License and the zip code for my address comes back as that city, I was informed a while ago that I live too rural for Taylorsville.
A few years ago we had an election for Mayor. We hadn't had one for years, because the guy who held the post didn't step down and apparently didn't require re-election. However, he became unable to serve when he became a ward of the state as a result of an FBI sting where he made plans to go visit a 14 year old girl he met online who turned out to be a 45 years old male agent.
I did my diligence, studying all the candidates for mayor and showed up at the fire station in town for regular November election. To my surprise, the Mayoral election was not on my ballet. The "officials" at the fire station said it was probably because I didn't really live in Taylorsville or maybe in that other part of Taylorsville that really isn't in the same county. Part of the Taylorsville zip code spans two counties, although the center of town is in Bartow county, where I live.
I was told to call the Bartow County Supervisor of Elections. I shall always remember these immortal words of explanation for my situation: "You must live within 1 status mile of the flashy-lighty thing to be considered in the City of Taylorsville."
Well, that did it for me. I know where that flashy-lighty thing is, and it's a good 7 miles from my farm. I officially live too rural for Taylorsville, Georgia!
As for the topic...Social Distancing is a lifestyle here. It takes half an hour to get to the nearest grocery. If you go to Home Depot, you'd better have a list, because forgetting something means the project gets postponed for another day (a technique I may have used a time or two).

Thanks Jon .... I can relate to all that .... I spent most of my life in a small city of 13,000 and had my business there ..... I also had a small country acreage with an older cottage type home and loved the peace and quiet so much I lived there full time starting in 1990 after I semi-retired ..... and like you it was a 1/2 hr drive to the nearest store and every trip to town I made a list of everything I needed ... plus had to anticipate everything I "might need" .
Major flood in 2011 and lost everything .... our federal government declared it a disaster area .... hundreds of homes ruined and the government paid everyone 60-80% of the value .... plus relocation costs , plus any interim rent we had to pay.
Mine was an older rural home value $60k , 7 months in a hotel plus rent after that added $40k out of pocket , and after all the inspections and paperwork was told I should get about $100k from disaster assistance .... next thing I would hear from them was a check in the mail , then I was on my own .... and was told to be patient because they were swamped with claims.
4 months later I got a notice I was a couple of miles outside the declared "disaster area" and had no coverage.

Arnie: Yikes! Sounds a lot like some of the horror stories of hurricane coverage in South Florida during the 70's. Lots of folks found they had no coverage or the "wrong kind." After the fact, of course.
Taylorsville has a population of right around 200+/- people per the last census. Probably up a bit since then, but not a lot.

https://www.flightradar24.com/13.92,-149.34/3Seems like all is getting back to normal? Back to over 5000 airliners in the sky again... look at the planes over the USA? How can there be that many planes flying when there are thousands dying in New York City? It is all very suspicious to me? Our borders are locked down... like, we cant drive from Queensland to New South Wales.... we arent even allowed to leave our houses for anything other than urgent shopping... our gubmint has closed most businesses and have started printing cash to give away... yet, even tho our airports are closed... there are airliners coming to and leaving from our closed airports? Man, we are being conned big time....

Well, not so much in Denmark or Sweden... But it's not to the same scale. The US is a very large place... Attachment: Flightradar6april.JPG In our household we are happy about the gobmint we have right now. We believe any other could've been disastrous... We are not really locked down. We are just being urged to keep the social distance and wash hands or use alcohol. Schools and businesses with close contact are shut down - also malls. But not single supermarkets. Let's just say - we have no problem buying food or toilet paper .. Borders are closed - sort of. Not for east european workers who go home to visit family and then return... We can't go abroad, of course (as if we would right now). And no more than 10 people are allowed together. And it's working very well. But we are of a different mindset than many other people. I'm thinking, I wonder if alcohol would help inside? Naah, to make it work I would have to more or less fill my lungs with it.... Cheers Erik

I am convinced it does work in some cases .... and because of my Danish heritage I am always experimenting with a better way to do everything ..... including alcohol .... haaaa Listerine mouthwash claims it kills 99.9% of germs and bacteria because of the alcohol in it ..... but you cannot swallow it because it is ethyl type alcohol ... it is also recommended if you think you are catching a cold .... to gargle with it and kill the germs in the upper throat. Here is the medical literature ..... even kills HIV Virus after 30 seconds Quote: Efficacy of Listerine antiseptic against MRSA, Candida albicans and HIV. The antiseptic activity of Listerine and Cool Mint Listerine against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Candida albicans, human immuno deficiency virus (HIV) and oral bacteria was examined in this study. Exposure for 30 seconds to Listerine killed MRSA completely. Exposure for 30 seconds significantly decreased viable cells of C. albicans. More than 60% of HIV was inactivated by a 30 second exposure to 50% Listerine. Listerine exhibited a potent bactericidal effect against cariogenic and periodontopathic bacteria. Cool Mint Listerine had almost the same antiseptic effect against tested microorganisms. Listerine appears to be effective for killing etiologic microorganisms of opportunistic infection in the oral cavity. SOURCE : https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7923507 But I cannot gargle ... I end up gagging and choking so every time I feel a cold starting and the beginning of a sore throat I pick up some strong Brandy (over 60% alcohol) ...... I swish it around in my mouth like mouthwash ... then slowly swallow it so it kills the germs and bacteria in my throat and gullet (esophagus) ..... a couple of hours later I will do it again ..... works every time and I have not had a cold or flu for years and years . More about that in a minute .

Further to using Brandy as a germ & bacteria killer .....
I had never seen my dad have a social drink in his life but he always kept a bottle of hard liquor around as "medicine" .... usually Brandy.
He lived to 95 and had never been to doctors or ever used any prescription drugs. He had a hard life as a farmer and was full of aches and pains and if it got real bad he would gulp a couple mouthfuls of his Brandy medicine as a painkiller so he could sleep at night ..... and of course any hint of a cold or flu out came the Brandy.
Around 1990 I caught the nastiest flu ever .... high fever ... all stuffed up .... whole body ached .... could not sleep properly .... after a week and half it got even worse and while telling my dad over the phone I would not be around for a visit he insisted I drink as much straight Brandy as I could stand then go to bed.
So I picked up a pint of strong Brandy .... drank it as fast as I could straight out of the bottle ... took about an hour .... felt like I was on fire from my mouth to my stomach .... laid flat on the bed and pretty much passed out .
Next morning the flu was completely gone .... had a hangover of course but that cleared up the next day and I was back to normal again.
I cant prove the brandy kicked out the flu but to this day I am sure it did .... besides colds and flu usually fade away over a couple of days .... not overnight like that.
And like I said last post , every time I feel the hint of a cold or something I simply use straight Brandy like mouthwash and then swallow it ..... has worked for 30 years for me

Here I go again ....haaa .... I should have been a doctor
... of gynecology (of course) ... seeing as Loftus has cornered the breast department
All the talk about shortages of hand sanitizers (60% alcohol) makes me wonder why nobody recommends using strong mouthwash (60% alcohol) or strong vodka (60 % alcohol) or other strong liquors as a disinfectant .
Hell , it is even cheaper than most store bought sanitizers .... which of course are mainly alcohol with a bit of aloe vera as a skin moisturizer etc.
And the repeated warnings that disposable masks may not prevent you catching the virus ..... fair enough .... yet on the other hand they say that the virus is mostly spread by tiny droplets when an infected person coughs and sneezes ..... well duh !!!! wouldn't a mask prevent those droplets from spraying all over the room ?? I would think so.
Stuff we never hear on the nightly news.

Good points Arnie, another thing you can do when feeling like you might be catching a cold, take a hot bath, or sit in a hot tub, raising your core temp helps to kill the buggers, same as a fever does, so artificially raising your temp helps lots.
And yes, you will never hear the truth on any mainstream news. Just fear and panic...

We bought some Bio-ethanol (used in heaters and as add-on in gasoline) and made it into hand sanitizer.
Not really cheap, but readily available. It was in the early days of the virus, when demand was higher than availability.
In Denmark I haven't seen Vodka (or brandy) with alcohol content higher than 50%.
Drinkable alcohol is taxed heavily in Denmark, so I wouldn't use that on hands unless in an emergency.
The only thing I have is some very old Austrian 80% "Stroh Rum"... Never used it - tastes horrible.
Bought it in Austria on a ski vacation more than 20 years ago. But if I get sick, I might try drinking some.
Cheers Erik

Cheers Erik Great idea to use bio-ethanol as sanitizer .... I used to buy it by the gallon and would put a bit into the gas tank in winter as a gas-line deicer. Today they blend ethanol into the gas at the pumps so bulk deicer has disappeared The Brandy I swallowed straight also tasted horrible but I noticed if I plugged my nose it was not as bad. Reminds me of the old Listerine commercials .... "tastes awful but it works" The most potent drinkable liquor here is called Everclear and is 95% alcohol ... even has a warning to dilute it lots before drinking ... made in the USA and prices are pretty decent .... herbalists use it to extract the ingredients from plants and leaves and rose-hips etc. Powerful stuff. .

Muz .... you think like me .... when I used the Brandy as a mouthwash-gargle substitute I would also breath some of the vapors back out through my nose .... thinking it might kill any germs there too ..... dont know if it actually worked or not but that was the theory .... and it would make my nose burn (heat up) so I knew there was alcohol fumes involved

Hi Guys, news from France here in France it seems to get a little bit better ... the curve is flattening, 82 beds of intensive care have been freed yesterday ... people are nearly all wearing masks in the streets and social distancing is no longer something that is applied because of the official recommendation .. people are afraid of each others .. the so called president of France went down in the south to meet the doctor who is promoting hydroxycholorine used with a powerful antibiotic to be given to the patients at the early stage of illness , he went there because the French have understood the government was lying about nearly everything .. I hope the curve will flatten in America Too ... have a good day

Well, today the picture is quite different....
I heard a Cessna and wanted to identify who.
One local private Cessna 177 RG and one Britten Norman Islander passing through.
Cheers Erik
