what's going on with Pete in Puerto Rico? I see Chuck Peterson posting on FB and it looks as if they are still in dire need of basic necessities....

I just spoke with Hector and he said the people in the mountains are still without but everywhere else has 80% of power, food and water are available. Very little landline communications, but some cell phones are working. They will be backed up for close to a year, WOW!! That sucks

Hey ya'll, I'm back! I have no electricity, no water, no phone and no internet unless the sun is shining! But my two orphaned kitties are safe and in good shape- and growing! They say we will not have electricity for another year, maybe never have water again, the phone system is a lost cause. Down around the metro area things are in pretty good shape, but out here in the hither lands it's pretty primitive. The politicians are happy, they are swimming in free money! This is the best things to happen for them in a long time. Well, it's about sun-down so I will lose my solar power soon. we'll chat more later.

I am so glad you are OK Pete....even if it's only relatively. That's pretty upsetting that these politicians take all the money and invest nothing into society. The main thing is that you made it through!!!!!

Well, that is a big load off....thanks for your reply Pete....and thanks to Jake for his phone call. Good thing Pete had a solar panel. Boy, this screws up any machining work. Be nice to have several solar panels, some batteries and a full sine-wave inverter....it would make life a bit easier and maybe he could pump well water.

Scotty, I am in better shape than many. For one reason, I have for many years been a practicing "Dooms Day Prepper", so I was really quite well prepared. I keep a well stocked pantry and rotate stock regularly. I have a 10,000 gallon cistern for water supply. My generator is an OLD Temco 4,000 watt heavy duty slow turning clunker that starts first pull every time. My house is a very solid concrete structure built into the side of the mountain so it stood pretty well. My shop was not so fortunate; The windows blew out and everything got soaked. But I can't complain, a lot of homes were completely destroyed. One notable instance was a lady with a small child who took refuge in the bathtub. The only part of her house left standing was the bathroom complete with four walls and plumbing! The latest count on deaths was 74. Another body was found yesterday. We have no idea how many were buried in mud slides. We had over 25 inches of rain and in many places the mountain slopes just slide down covering anything including sections of roads. A great tragedy, down the mountain just below me, a man, his wife and two kids were buried under a huge mud slide. It was several days before the bodies were recovered. As I said, I was much more fortunate than many.
