Guys- If I come to Bensen Days, it will have to be shorter than normal....Thursday or not at all. I refuse to even consider anything but a non stop flight. Too many experiences with delays waiting on connecting flights.

I have an airport nearby that I used my Delta Skymiles card, and basically flew down for free for several years. Delta cancelled that flight, and now I have to buy a ticket. My airfare a few weeks ago was under $400.....then it jumped to around $500....now just yesterday its $619.10.
This morning it was briefly back to $518.

Time I add a rental car and even split a motel room, I could buy 250 gallons if kerosene for my Helicycle.

I want to go to Bensen Days badly, but I have to be responsible and fair to our family budget.

Last year I used the money that I would have spent going to Bensen Days and bought a new Sig Sauer Mk25 pistol...

can you make it to Bensen days on 250 gal. of kero? if so Fly the helicycle down, we have plenty of room in the camper if ya need a place to stay. got to admit that would be a heck of a fun flight.

I think Stan should Fly the helicycle down. bing maps says it's bit over 16 hours. at Stans speed in cruise he could be here in 8 or so.

talk about the flight of a life time. Cindi and I will let him stay in the Motorhome with us. and that even take out the cost of a rental car.

ok not good at math, but I think his fuel burn would kill that Idea. 17 x 12= 204

Oh well he is still welcome to stay with Cindi and I in the Motorhome.

Tim- As dependable as the Helicycle is, I just am not wired to fly or even drive that far. One small problem and away from tools and parts, it would be a major nuisance.

I would never subject Barbara to that much worry.

I have issues that severely limit my time away, and it has to be short and sweet. Non stop flight is the only way I would come if I do.

I used to come every year for free with my Delta Skymiles card. I am torn between coming down for an abbreviated stay or just use that money and buy 250 gallons of kerosene.

Believe me, its more complicated than I am revealing. I just won't know until the last minute.

Stan, I truly home you make it down! Used to be... one could convert those Delta SkyMiles to AmEx Membership Rewards points... and use them in many a different way... maybe even different airlines. Not sure if one can still do that... worth checking though.

In 2009, I had to do a LOT of traveling back and forth to Houston TX... my Dad spent the better part of the year in the hospital. I learned how to go to the travel sites (Expedia, Travelosity, Kayak, etc) and find the best fare... then go directly to the airline and beat up the ticket agent on the phone until they gave me the fare. I also learned that if one is flying a connecting flight... ALWAYS fly it with the SAME airline AND through an airport that is a MAJOR hub for that airline...
Example: If one flies Delta, only fly a multi-leg flight that is ALL Detla and go through Atlanta... If one flies US Air, only fly a multi-leg that is all US Air flights and through Charlotte.
And do not check you bag... carry it on. One can pack enough for 3-4 days in a carry on. They allow one carry on, and one personal item. One can carry a laptop bag as a personal item... and stuff it with personal stuff. This seemed to work for me... I made probably 17 or 18 round trips to Houston that summer.
I did learn that I could fly to Houston in 2.1 hours non-stop... or I could go to Charlotte and then to Houston in 4.5 hours for literally 1/2 the price. The key is all flights on the same airline, and going through the major hub airport of that airline.

Stan... I really hope you make it... there are lots of us who really are looking forward to our forum friends being there... However if circumstances dictate it is just not in the cards...
I hope to make it to Mentone this Summer... so we can catch up then.

All the best!

John/GA

Stan, I wall add to the consensus that we all hope that you can make it and that it will be a rewarding trip for you. I understand that it is much more than just your preferences and I hope that whether or not you can make Bensen Days that circumstances from above bring fortune into your life. I do so look forward to meeting you and sharing my experiences with you since hearing about your and AM's experiences and reading The Harbinger. All I can say at this point is things are beginning to evolve that I am very excited about.

Guys- Gabor sent me a Kayak link that showed a decent airfare for a non stop round trip flight to Orlando. I wasnt ready yet, but signed up with Kayak for e-mail warnings.

Well I received one this morning showing one non stop flight available. I said it would be non stop or I wouldn't go. I have had bad delays at Atlanta getting connecting flights.
Long story short, I decided to book that last flight, and since I am not certain I am going , bought an insurance policy for just $10.95 that I can cancel and get $400 back should I not be able to go. I read the fine print, and my reason for cancelling would be valid.

I used my debit card and my flight is already paid for.

If I didn't act right now, I would have lost my only non stop flight. However, I am not naive , and I will bet that was not the last non stop flight, that it more than likely was a way to get me to book fast. I thought , what the heck, just risking $75 instead if I decide to cancel.

So , I land in Orlando at 10:19 am, Thursday March 27th.

Yeah, that is a funny video... until you stick one of those cannons against your shoulder.

Another 'pop' to respect is a Desert Eagle in .50 cal:

Just shot two grey squirrels with my Sig 938. Love that freakin gun and it wasn't bought to shoot squirrels at all, but a target the size of a human torso.

Guess what I am having for supper!
