I know nothing about the engine but it appears to me it is purpose designed by incorporating the redrive onto the engine block as a factory unit ... to me that is the ultimate ... sure looks compact. The auction has ended so I took a screen shot before it disappears Anyone have more info on the engine ?? . |

It prolly wouldn't be bad for little fixed wings, but nit ideal for a pusher gyro IMO.... to me it would be about the same as half a VW with a reduction drive.... totally air cooled would have its issues too..... It might work in a really bare bones, basic gyro with a light pilot..... but I doubt it would drive a decent eight machine with a decent weight pilot (IE: fat prick) In other words, the motor could have potential with a lot of R&D and making the bigger version, but as it sits today, that capacity really isn't much use to us. I think it would be a money pit.... and once you have spent ga-zillions on making the 1200cc version, to sell it as an aircraft motor, there is all the anti-litigation proofing and all that I wonder if there are any examples flying/running? No one asked that? I didn't see a Hp rating? Single ignition? A nice thought, but I'll pass EDIT: I suggest it would be about the same Hp as a 447 or a bit less.... around 35-45 Hp which is well below what we would need |

. I agree about the size (small for a gyro etc) ... I just like the redrive , it appears to be designed by the engine designers and not as somebody else's afterthought or an aftermarket unit With that in mind just add 2 more cylinders for more power. . |

Yeah Arnie, I am not knocking the engine, my personal opinion it is just a wee bit small for us.... not to mention, to make a new 4 cyl VW using no VW parts is easily doable.... with everything from new cases with case savers, large bores, new heads all after market and pretty cheap.... about $4,000 for everything, then put a C box on it..... prolly $6,000 all up...... For someone in ultralight FW it would be a good engine for sure |
